San Antonio Councilman Jalen Mckee-Rodriguez Talks Community Engagement on "Community Matters" Podcast

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - In the debut episode of "Community Matters with Denise Hernandez," District 2 Councilman Jalen Mckee-Rodriguez shared his insights on community engagement and social issues in San Antonio.

As one of the youngest members of San Antonio's city council, Mckee-Rodriguez has already made an impact in his district by advocating for affordable housing and community-driven initiatives. In the podcast, he emphasized the importance of empowering community members to have a voice in shaping their neighborhoods.

"Community engagement is not a checkbox that we check off and say, 'we did it,'" Mckee-Rodriguez said. "It's a continual process of engaging people and empowering them to make a difference in their own neighborhoods."

Throughout the conversation, Mckee-Rodriguez also touched on his personal experiences growing up in District 2, which encompasses many historically underserved neighborhoods in San Antonio. He highlighted the need for more equitable access to resources and services in these areas.

The "Community Matters" podcast, produced by Hernandez, aims to showcase the work of San Antonians who are actively engaged in improving their communities. In each episode, Hernandez will interview community leaders, activists, and organizers who are working to create positive change in their neighborhoods.

"We want to highlight the amazing work that people are doing in San Antonio and amplify their voices," Hernandez said. "By sharing their stories, we hope to inspire others to get involved and make a difference in their own communities."

Listeners can tune in to "Community Matters with Denise Hernandez" on all major podcast platforms. The podcast is part of a larger multimedia project, which includes a visual component featuring interviews with guests like Mckee-Rodriguez.

As San Antonio continues to grow and evolve, "Community Matters" offers a timely exploration of the different ways in which its residents are working to make their city a better place for all.
