He held your hand, it lit the match. Your first kiss under the bleachers set the fire ablaze.  The lunch bell rang, while your best friend yelled, “Hurry up! We’re going to be late!” He promised he’d skate with you to the last song that night, with locker doors audibly slamming all around you.

You didn’t even wait for wheels to come to a stop, while you slid out of the passenger side door of your parents’ minivan. The minutes passed until you found yourself counting down the seconds of the last song, you knew every word to.

Your mom was right on time that night, and the headlights blinded you as she pulled into the parking lot, waving excitedly at you. Your left hand tightly held the laces of your skates and the weight of the minivan door was as heavy as your thoughts that passed through your mind on the drive home.

You imagined yourself smiling at him as he stumbled with you around the rink, hands sweaty, legs shaking and you couldn’t believe you’d have to wait an entire weekend before you could ask him why he broke his promise.
